Our story

Sleepover Trading Co. started in 2023 as two analog evangelists, Guido and Rob, putting tapes back on the big screen. By 2025, after more than fifty screenings and pop-ups across the Hudson Valley, each with a preshow of vintage trailers and commercials, we gave it a home: under the marquee at the historic Community Theater on Main Street in Catskill, a 1920s movie palace back in use for the first time in years.

We are also the stewards of the Video Visions collection. Steve Campbell opened it in Chatham, NY in 1984 and grew it from 200 tapes into a library of more than 20,000 titles that outlasted Blockbuster and streaming both. After his passing in 2024, we took it in. It rents downstairs today, and the rest of the archive is still being catalogued. Add in thousands of vintage and new comics, toys, and more, and you have what Steve always wanted: a library of movies, and a place to talk about them with other weirdos.

News from the counter

  • We're in The New York Times

    NEW

Jane Schoenbrun brought The New York Times to the shop for a story on their first novel, Public Access Afterworld, out today from Hogarth. Jane called Sleepover "one of my real safe spaces," spun the comics rack, and headed down to the Basement, where their signed I Saw the TV Glow DVD sits in the case. The book is on our shelf now, between the Vintage Video Basement and Queer Mythology. Read the story, then come pick up a copy.

  • Video Store Day was a huge success

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday. The 16th International Video Store Day was our first, and the shop was packed from doors at 11. The MVD exclusives moved fast, the rental wall got a workout, and a lot of childhoods got rewound. Same time next year.

  • Next up, Chopping Mall, Sat 11/21

The mall is locked for the night and the killbots are on patrol. Sleepover Saturday plays the short Mall Video Store, then Chopping Mall on VHS. Free VHS swap at 5:30, movie at 7.
